Captivated by a Web
Lacy, dainty
A work of art
This morning a spider web
Touched my heart.
I gazed at this miracle
A few yards away
As I sat outside a moment,
To begin a new day.
Gratefulness welled up because
I knew the true designer
although he did the work
wasn’t the little, brown spider.
If God provides for His creatures
So elaborately
Surely I can trust Him
To take care of me.
I happened to glance down
Just a foot to my side
And a similar spider web
So close to me I spied.
Here---another lesson
At this new day’s dawn,
The Lord speaking to me
Right in my own lawn.
It seems we tend to focus
On lovely blessings afar
And overlook equal ones
So close to where we are.
Lord, help me to be mindful
All the day through
Of the nearness of every blessing---
The nearness of You!
